Jaipur
Jaipur – A City of Royal Splendour and Timeless Charm
Another city of superlatives, Jaipur consistently impresses. Also known as the ‘Pink City’ for the striking colour of much of its stone, Jaipur is the proud capital of the great state of Rajasthan. Jaipur is a World Heritage City, established in 1727, and is one of the key cities in tours of the Golden Triangle, alongside Delhi and Agra. This Golden Triangle tour is often the one visitors do on their first trip to India. Jaipur is surrounded by the Aravalli Hills, making a stunning backdrop to this beautiful city. Must-see attractions in Jaipur are plentiful and include the intricate and beautiful façade of the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), Jal Mahal Palace (Water Palace), which is surrounded by a lake and is quite a spectacle. The Amer (sometimes called Amber) Fort sits high above Jaipur and can be reached by jeep or elephant! The views from Nahargarh Fort are unparalleled and best enjoyed at sunset, accompanied by a drink and the music of local musicians. You shouldn’t miss the Panna Meena Ka Kund Stepwell for the sheer spectacle of seeing those wonderful patterned steps, created to allow as many people as possible to reach the water. Jaipur is home to some fascinating temples: Govind Dev Ji, Birla Mandir, and Galta Ji (Monkey Temple), and visitors are always welcome to observe the worship and experience the architecture and atmosphere of these sacred places, so beloved and woven into the everyday lives of millions of Hindus. Both the Albert Hall Museum and Jantar Mantar (astronomical structures) are worth a visit, as is the impressive City Palace. Unwind at the iconic Raj Mandir Cinema and watch a Bollywood movie in world-famous surroundings. The textile stores are an experience in themselves, and if you can, get a lesson in Block Printing, one of the traditional art forms of this wonderful city.
